Freestyle Connection Gymnastics Movement Seminar with Coach Carl Paoli

Posted by MAKING PROGRESS On Wednesday 0 comments

One thing that is certain, I love to learn new skills and teach them especially if they involve moving better, faster, and stronger! I am Christmas Morning excited that I will be attending Coach Carl's Freestyle Connection Gymnastics Movement Seminar on April 29th! Coach is creator of Gymnasticswod.com and will teach how to apply gymnastics and freestyle movement to improve athleticism, and retool training programs with the Position-Movement-Purpose framework. I am so excited to learn, have some fun, and bring back all the knowledge I can to share with others!

Here is a vid someone put together from a recent seminar.

Gymnasts are known to be extremely well rounded athletes and incredibly coachable athletes because of their awareness of their own bodies, mechanics, and capabilities. If you are serious about your performance, you should strive to incorporate gymnastics into your programming. Don't worry ladies and gentlemen everything is scalable and has progressions to help incorporate this into your workouts. Learning knew skills is a part of life so tackle challenges and have fun with it! The proper attitude is sometimes more useful than extreme talent. Have fun stay positive and chase quality.

Create a great day!

Heel Cord Management!

Posted by MAKING PROGRESS On Tuesday 0 comments
Hello Happy People!
Let us take a gander at one of Kelly's Mobility WOD'S that targets the wonderfull heel cord!

Some words from K-Starr:
Todays Mwod is all about your heel cords. Did you know that simple bodyweight loading of the heel cords in movements like the box jump can create forces upwards of 16x bodyweight? That’s one big tendon. So how the hell do athletes rupture this beast?
Two words. Dedication. In my clinical practice, I have never seen a tendon rupture that wasn’t preceded by a good old fashioned bout of junky/inflammed tissue syndrome (JITS tm).
Today we are going to create some range in those bad boys so that they won’t end up shredding due to tightness

Take a look at the video and always remember to test and retest!

P.S. Make today the day you want it to be! Bam!!

A word from k-star on cooling down after our workouts. How many times do we catch ourselves leaving right after an exhausting workout to go straight back to work or plop on the couch? I have to say I have some problems here too because of time crunch but lets start working to get some mobility, rowing, running, or even some skill work to chill out after we drive through a workout. Enjoy this word and clip from San Fran lovely people!

K-Star
A ton of the problems we see start out as non-cool down adaptation errors. How do you think you got so stiff? Why didn’t you “recover” from your last workout? We need to control the things we can control. For crying out loud, go to any olympic track and see how many of those athletes “cool down” on the other track. Watch the swimming events and witness how many laps the athletes swim after they compete. Even racing horses are cooled down for crying out loud (they are typically better cared for than you btw). Obviously you don’t have to cool down for 40 min after a 20 min sprint piece. But, are you performing any cool down? Are you drinking and eating anything in the first 20-30 min window? Or, do you simply go back to work or the couch? I know, I know! Time is crunched. It’s hard to fit it all in when you train at elite levels of intensity. In this video, I’m referencing the fact that my athletes were about to compete in a 10 minute effort. A simple guideline is for them to spend 15-20 minutes cooling down. This could include walking, rowing, mobing etc. Do it for a week. Budget some time to actually cool down and see how you feel.

Hydration Questions?

Posted by MAKING PROGRESS On Monday 0 comments
Hello friends,
Hydration for athletes is something that can make or break an athletes performance. Hydration for the average person can make or break their performance. Hydration for the below average person can make or break their performance. Hydration for.. ok you get the point. Hydration rocks guys and if anyone is missing out on benefiting from it jump on board and make it happen you will not be disappointed. It is directly linked to the way that you feel throughout the day. Have you ever wondered why you feel tired all the time or might have moody sections of the day? Listen I'm not saying that hydrating properly will fix all your issues but I am saying what a spectacular place to start! Check out this video with Max, awesome dude he blessed us with his presence at my CrossFit Endurance certification. He is a wealth of knowledge in the endurance and CrossFit world. Hear what he has to say about hydrating!

Create a great day!
